Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery
Parkinson Court
University of Leeds

Students from the MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies course at the University of Leeds have been working with the Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery to create an activity to enhance the visitor experience.

Need a break from studying? Have some time to spare between lectures? Why not come along to the Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery and spend five minutes engrossed in an object's story. Learn more about its history and how it relates to your everyday life. Become immersed in the narrative and play an active role in discovering what makes these items special. Pick up one of the following six object stories:

  • Travel en route with an escapee from a First World War prisoner of war camp.
  • Discover the imaginary childhood world of the Brontës.
  • Compare your cooking techniques to a 16th century cookbook.
  • Be inspired by Ivan Bunin's Nobel Prize and think about you want to achieve.
  • Take a step back in time, and learn about the beautiful artisan traditions preserved by William Morris and the Kelmscott press.
  • Become a detective and investigate if a work attributed to Shakespeare is the real deal.

The free story cards will be available to collect from the entrance to the Treasures Gallery from 28 October.
