Making it in the world of museums, galleries and heritage with an MA

Date

Alumna Alice Walters recently talked to the Guardian regarding the benefits of studying for an MA in Art Gallery & Museum Studies at the University of Leeds.

Alice was one of three MA graduates from English universities interviewed for the piece. The article, entitled ‘Finding a graduate job in fine art can be tough, but a master’s could help’, considered how qualifications as well as practical experience are a must to make it in today's competitive art world.

In the article, Alice describes how an MA in Art Gallery and Museums Studies at Leeds gave her the opportunity to consolidate her learning and to share thought process and ideas. She explains how she believes that, along with practical experience (which forms a large part of the course at Leeds), a master’s degree helps with getting job interviews.

The full article, which appeared in The Guardian Education on 5 March 2014, can be found here.

The MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies at the University of Leeds focuses on gaining a critical understanding of curatorship, museology and museum management, with graduates achieving careers as heads of collections, curators in local authority museums, within national heritage organisations like the National Trust, and in arts marketing and public relations.
