This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, creative and flexible individual to be responsible for marketing across the Library’s public engagement activities.

The Library offers two free public visitor attractions:

  • The Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery (SABG), an Accredited Museum, showcasing the University’s art collection with particularly strong collections of 20th century British art.
  • The Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery (TBG), showcasing the rare books and manuscripts in the Special Collections.  This gallery, supported by Heritage Lottery funding, is due to open in November 2015.

Both galleries offer a regular programme of educational and other public events aimed at a wide audience.

&Co Cultural Marketing have helped the Library create a joint marketing plan for these two galleries and you’ll be responsible for implementing it and developing the audience for both the well-established SABG and the new TBG.

You’ll work alongside the Library’s Marketing and Engagement Team (who have overall responsibility for Library marketing) to develop the profile of our other public activities such as Heritage Open Days and Light Night and liaise with the University’s central marketing team and with other cultural venues on campus to support coherence across the campus offer.

Managing a small team, including volunteers, you’ll also work alongside the HLF project Learning and Engagement Officer to develop a programme of appealing public events and activities for both galleries.

Holding a professional marketing qualification or significant relevant experience, you’ll have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. You’ll be comfortable using IT, and have a strong commitment to excellent customer service, along with a flexible approach to change. An understanding of the role of public engagement in the higher education context and the role of university museums and galleries, as well as previous experience in marketing is essential.  Experience of working with volunteers in a creative environment will be an advantage.

Attendance at events outside core hours, and frequent Saturday working, is a requirement of the post, and delivery of the activities may involve pushing trolleys, and lifting and handling of rare or fragile items requiring a high degree of manual dexterity.

Full job details can be found here on the University of Leeds website.
