Ways of Knowing: Exploring the registers, values and subjectivities of collaborative research
Helen Graham
This project experimentally explored the different ‘ways of knowing’ which emerge from collaborative, participatory or action research. Our research team was made of people who have been involved in collaborative research but who use different techniques and who come from different contexts and/or disciplinary backgrounds. Our way of working was to try out methods with each other – such as storytelling approaches, craft and making, and a Socratic Dialogue – as a way of collectively reflecting on their effects. Each approach evoked different notions of rationality and reason, different relationships between ‘thinking’ and ‘being’ and was orientated differently to supporting lots of different voices or developing consensus.
